The following specifications for your car and phone are necessary in order to add the My BMW remote app to your vehicle:
- Manufactured by BMW after 2014 (NOTE: Prior-model BMWs are still compatible with the My BMW app, although they might not support all of its functions.)
- iOS 12.0 or later is required for iPhone.
- Android 6.0 or later mobile device
Open the program after downloading it from the Apple Store or Google Play Store, and then:
- Use your BMW ID to log in, or register a new account.
- Establish a 4-digit PIN.
- Click “Add vehicle.”
- Your VIN’s 17 digits should be entered and verified.
- The security code will be delivered to your car, and you can locate it under the “BMW messages” tab in iDrive.
- Enter and then double-check the security code.
- Simply click “Enable remote services.”

Why can’t my BMW app find my car?
After seeing that the vehicle finder in the My BMW app was not functioning even though it had on my prior vehicles and the 3D remote view, I contacted customer service for advice. They suggested the following steps, which I thought I would share in case anybody else was having a similar issue.

We advise resetting the head unit inside the car. Please complete the following steps in order to do so:
* Press and hold the power button for precisely 70 seconds. The iDrive power button is located on the volume knob.
* Around 25 seconds into the 70 seconds, the iDrive screen in the middle of the car will shut down and reset, but keep holding the power button for the full 70 seconds.
* In the center console, next to the iDrive controller, click “Apps” on the iDrive, and then push the Option button.
* Select Update services and apps. After that, the car will receive a brief update.
* Reinstall the BMW Connected app after uninstalling it from your phone.
After the update is finished, we advise turning the car off and giving it some time to cool before turning it back on to confirm the connection.
Please make sure you are signed into both of the vehicle’s Driver Profiles. Send a screen image of the error message you received if the problem continues.
Is BMW Connected Drive the same as my BMW app?
The common interface to your BMW and to all other products and services from BMW is the My BMW App. You are always kept informed of the state of your car thanks to the My BMW App. It also enables remote access features, such as finding the vehicle, locking and unlocking the doors, or capturing the surroundings of the vehicle, depending on the equipment used (Remote 3D View). You can submit destination addresses to your car’s navigation system using the My BMW App on your smartphone. For example, you can always see your electric range thanks to the app’s wide range of essential features for electrified vehicles.
- Vehicles made in 2014 and later are best suited for the My BMW App.
- Individual app features may be available depending on your vehicle’s specification and your BMW ConnectedDrive contract.

Is it possible to start a BMW without a remote?
You won’t be able to use keyless entry or remote unlocking if your BMW has Comfort Access if the battery in your key fob has died. You can still enter and manually start your automobile, though.
Press and hold the key release button at the remote fob’s base while unlocking the door of your car, then slide out the internal key blade. This can be used in place of a standard key to unlock your car. You can locate a little hole on the bottom of the handle if the keyhole is hidden on your car door. Insert the key blade in this hole and use it to pry off the trim panel to reveal the keyhole.
Once you’re inside, put your remote key fob in the ignition slot or, if your car doesn’t have one, press it up against the steering column’s key markings. If your key fob dies, you will still be able to start your BMW using the start/stop button on the dashboard.

I paid $150 for the L package and am also from Australia. In my X3, I also have CarPlay. After using both for some time, I would advise against spending additional money on ConnectedDrive. You do have access to features like traffic updates, online tools, updated maps, remote supervision, and—most importantly—navigational guidance in HUD. You might wish to purchase that package if you consider any of those to be important. But I’ve found that Apple Maps, Google Maps, and Waze are all better at routing than the built-in maps now that I commute every day during rush hour, when better navigation routing can be useful. In terms of aesthetics, voice guidance, and HUD integration, I still prefer the built-in maps the best, but the routing is simply ineffective. I have recently stopped using BMW maps totally. CarPlay’s calling interface, which fills the full screen, is its only drawback. BMW has made many good interface choices, but sadly, a connection to navigation routing is not one of them. If only the routing was on pace with other major providers, I would love to use BMW maps and would gladly pay for them.
