I’m overjoyed to be a part of Tampa’s gorgeous, sunny 10News Weather Team! Of course it will be sunny after those everyday afternoon storms pass.
Actually, Florida is to blame for my childhood obsession with thunderstorms. Yes, I’m familiar with the Sunshine State. Since I grew up in Rockledge, Florida, where I spent my formative years, you might find me at Cocoa Beach virtually every weekend.
I was in geek heaven because both my mom and dad worked for Disney and my dad for NASA. I really feel that my early exposure to weather (and everything space-related) in Central Florida stoked my interest for severe weather and the tropics, which I continued to pursue even when my dad’s career moved the family to Houston.
I have a degree in environmental/atmospheric science with a minor in geology from the University of Houston. I didn’t choose to pursue broadcasting as a career until I had an internship at a Houston TV station. After graduating from college, I progressed through a number of Texas cities, including Abilene, College Station, and finally Austin, one of my favorite cities!
I experienced it all in Texas, from catastrophic river flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey to severe winter weather. Even the award-winning pre-game show “Aggie Gameday” gave me the chance to deliver the football predictions for game day. But, to be quite honest, my heart has been itching to return to the beach and face the challenges of predicting and covering tropical weather in the state where it all began for me.
I’m enjoying being a tourist in my new city, going to all the beaches and shooting pictures of all the sunsets. observing the sights, hearing the noises, and, of course, tasting everything! Obtaining my CBM certification from the American Meteorological Society is one of my main goals while in Tampa.
Do you have a favorite dog-friendly location to suggest? Share them with me, please! It would be appreciated by my two dogs.
