I believe the US handbook specifies that the button must be pressed internally. To which section of the manual are you referring?
I double-checked, and the instructions only refers to the folding—not the position in the profile. The mirrors cannot be controlled by the remote, only the windows. So I am mistaken.
On my 330i, the mirrors fold in and then unfold again when you unlock the car if you hold down the close button on the remote (or keep your finger on the door handle for comfort access). I’m not sure if this is the same on other vehicles.
My 330i’s mirrors fold when I press the lock button on the remote control or keep my finger on the Comfort Access lock point, however my X3’s mirrors do not. Additionally, they do not open automatically when the car doors are unlocked. The door’s button next to the mirror controls appears to be the only point of control.
I just tested it, and while holding down the lock button on the remote key, the mirrors folded themselves. They once more unfold automatically when you open the vehicle.

Although it may seem simple, electric folding mirrors must be factory installed. You do not have electronic folding mirrors if your car does not have the button highlighted in yellow below that was factory installed. You simply don’t have them; they are neither hidden nor waiting to be turned on.
Factory installed electric folding mirrors are necessary for this upgrade. Obviously, they cannot be remotely operated if they are not fitted. If they are factory installed, you can code this function into your car for PS91.67 + VAT.
Using the BMW X3’s auto-fold side mirrors
When the car is locked, your BMW X3’s side mirrors will automatically fold in if they are fitted and enabled in settings. By doing this, the mirrors are shielded from harm.
If your system has a touch display or an iDrive controller, you can use those to enable this capability.
- Navigate to My Vehicle on the infotainment system screen of your car to enable auto folding mirrors on the X3.
- Next, choose Vehicle settings.
- Next, select Doors/Key.
- Check the box next to Fold mirrors in when locked by scrolling down.
Now, when you lock the car, the outside mirrors ought to fold in, and when you open it, they ought to fold out.
Try voice command instead if you can’t find the option in settings: simply press the talk button on the steering wheel and say “doors and key.” When auto folding is selected, the system will enter the Doors/Key menu and scroll down to enable it. If you’re still having trouble finding it, your car could not have this feature.
Do my BMW’s mirrors fold up?
You may electronically adjust the side mirrors on your BMW by pressing the button on the inside of the driver’s door. To choose which mirror you want to change, first move the toggle to the left or right. Using the matching arrows on the adjustment button, the angle of the mirror can then be adjusted up, down, left, or right. The handy auto-dip feature is activated by keeping the toggle in the right hand position. The passenger mirror will automatically tilt downward to provide a better view of the curb and any nearby objects while reverse gear is engaged. Disabling this function requires moving the switch to the left. Either the fold button on the driver’s door or the lock button on the key fob can be used to fold the wing mirrors in. The rearview mirror is simple to manually place in the ideal position.

All of the mirrors have the ability to fold. If they don’t fold automatically, you can just push them with your hand. Seriously though, you need several mirrors with the motors and wiring loom, a mirror switch with a folding button, and then coding to make them motorized folding.

I don’t know if folding mirrors are standard in NA, but my UK 30d SE doesn’t have them; they were an expensive option.
By the way, for the imperial guys, the X3’s width with enlarged mirrors is 2098mm, or 82.59 inches.
Works perfectly for my X3 in Germany in this manner, however you must have specified the options “mirrors” and “keyless” at the dealer.
The need for the coding arises from NA’s prohibition on this feature. I believe it has to do with legal issues and dangers from traps. Same goes for remotely locking the boot and locking the sunroof and windows while maintaining lock on the key fob. These all function in the UK without further code.
In Toronto, GLK has this automatic mirror folding feature, but not the X3.
In the United States, it’s the exact reverse. Automatic folding mirrors are not even an option when purchasing a GLK. I detested it when MB made their cars less expensive for the US market.
I have the option for folding side mirrors, but I can’t figure out how to make them automatically fold in after you park your car and turn off the motor. I don’t want to hit the button repeatedly. Why do you do this?

I recently purchased a used 2018 X1 Sport. I’ve tried briefly depressing the lock button on the key fob, but the door mirrors will not fold. Do ALL X1 models have the ability to fold, or may I only have a simpler model without this capability? In the car settings, I don’t find anything that would enable this. Can I manually fold if necessary if auto folding is not possible? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
Your mirrors should be able to be folded if you have a button by the mirror controls. It must be coded if you want it to fold automatically each time you lock the car. Invoking BimmerCode
I appreciate your response, Rounderman. Only buttons to modify each mirror are present by the X1 mirror controls. Therefore, I’m considering the possibility that my model doesn’t support that function.
Thank to everybody. Overall, I believe that since power folding mirrors are not an option on this car, no amount of Bimmercode will be able to activate them.

Can anyone with this car tell me if the modern line and lights package come with power folding side vision mirrors?
One car that I programmed had the exact same build date as mine (07/12), and both of our vehicles were classic lines with just the premium pack and lighting pack.
His car lacked folding mirrors, whereas mine did. I’m not sure if the fact that mine was AW and his was black makes a difference.
