I don’t think the aforementioned post is at all accurate. The CCC navigation system costs less than $1000. Install it, code it, and end the project. I’ve read a lot about this because I have a non-nav car that I only purchased with the intention of upgrading to the more modern CIC system. Even that system is currently available for about $1500.
Although you may be optimistic, you are also pessimistic. I can fix shady trees very well, and I used to fix UH60s when I was in the Army. I made sure to buy a car with the nav system because I meticulously researched this before making my purchase.
$1000? Come on, dude. Not likely to occur. new center console faceplate, screen, interface, navigation computer, DVD player, wiring harness, GPS antenna, patch into CANBUS harness, and coding? for $1000? bad even for a do-it-yourselfer.
