When compared to the competition, the QX80’s infotainment system is out of date and needs to be updated. However, the UI seems and looks out of place with the rest of the QX80. The 8-inch touch screen is simple to operate, and you can activate a hotspot to share the Internet connection. Additionally, neither Apple CarPlay nor Android Auto are supported, which would help people accept the shortcomings of this system.
The infotainment system feels stale and isn’t compatible with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
The cabin’s 15-speaker Bose audio system provides superb sound quality, and the Bluetooth phone system functions nicely.
The Limited trim level that was tested included the Theater package, which adds two 8-inch displays in the back and allows them to play video through an HDMI port or the built-in DVD player. A 120V outlet and an additional USB connector are also included in this bundle so you can bring in a gaming system or other device and use it to play on the screens. The two provided wireless headphones or the speakers in the SUV play the music.
Several driver-friendly and safety features are available, such as intelligent cruise control, which keeps you moving with the traffic, lane departure warning and prevention, blind-spot detection and intervention, and backup collision intervention. Blind spot and lane departure features are not included by default.
Even with people or cargo in the way, you can always see out the rearview mirror thanks to a clever gimmick that turns it into a screen that shows a rearview stream from your backup camera.
It’s wonderful to see Forward Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection as a standard feature on all trim levels. Additionally, automatic high lights are included as standard. The 360-degree video system is essential and makes navigating confined parking spaces simple.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are already installed in every one of those vehicles, but they can only be used with a cable connection. With this update, Apple CarPlay will appear on the screen without requiring you to plug in your Lightning wire.

Given that many other automakers offer wireless Android Auto in addition to wireless Apple CarPlay, we questioned Infiniti about the possibility of a similar upgrade for Android users. “Infiniti is looking at Android Auto for future vehicle integration,” the representative would only add. 20% of Infiniti owners will be impacted by the lack of wireless Android Auto since, according to Infiniti, 20% of its high-end customers do not use Apple products. These owners will still have wired Android Auto, at the very least.
The 2017 Infiniti QX60 is Apple CarPlay compatible.

Can I use CarPlay wirelessly with Infinity?
Support for wireless CarPlay is one of the new features coming to drivers thanks to a software upgrade that Infiniti has begun to roll out for the infotainment system fitted in a few models.
Simply because it’s simpler to connect a mobile device to the head unit with wireless Android Auto and CarPlay than with the traditional versions that require a connection, they offer additional convenience.
If the wireless mode is available, after the two devices are paired, a connection is instantly made between the phone and the HU. In other words, you can just leave your phone in your pocket or bag since when you start the car, Android Auto or CarPlay should still start up on the head unit.
As the firm has announced an infotainment software upgrade that also supports wireless CarPlay in their vehicles, a select group of Infiniti owners are going to gain first-hand experience with this wireless mode.
The software upgrade, which is intended for the 2020 and 2021 Infiniti Q50, Q60, QX50, and QX80, can be installed at any dealership, regardless of whether your car is still covered by warranty or not. You must, however, make an appointment for the software upgrade by March 31, 2022, if the warranty has already run out.
Infiniti notes that this software update is optional, so you can certainly forego it if you don’t necessarily want Apple’s wireless CarPlay. According to the manufacturer, your infotainment system will continue to function as usual, so theoretically, this is the only feature you won’t be getting.
Although the software upgrade is a fairly simple procedure, it must be carried out at an Infiniti dealership. It doesn’t take more than an hour to complete.
There is a rumor The days of wired CarPlay may already be numbered if Apple does indeed consider a portless iPhone that may be released in a few years. The Cupertino-based tech giant’s willingness to adopt this concept is still up in the air, but if it does, the move to wireless will almost probably be slow.
