Next, position yourself such that your hands and face are pointing toward the back of the vehicle. You don’t need to be able to see or have a burlap sack over your head; you just need to be able to grab a little bit. It’s important to keep in mind that car boots are designed to be secure from the outside, not from the inside, and that no automaker would waste money on a Houdini-proof lid.
The key to a quick getaway is a car’s internal boot release, sometimes known as a trunk release in the US. Since having a completely exclusive latch mechanism wouldn’t really benefit a car manufacturer, almost all of these systems operate in the same way. Simply put, that level of detail doesn’t sell automobiles.
Most locks operate using a straightforward hook-and-post system. The lid has a post or rod, and the body’s hook mechanism catches it to keep the lid closed (the post or latch may be on the body or lideither way works the same). The hook is spun such that it is no longer engaged with the post when the boot release is pushed or the key is turned in the lock, allowing the lid to be raised. The interior boot release merely pulls a lengthy wire attached to the hook to release it from the boot. Postpower systems, which use a solenoid, essentially accomplish the same thing.
What you should do is feel around the interior of the boot near the back hinges to see if there is a stiff cable. Although this is basically a sheath for the inner cable, the release is frequently activated by pulling the entire assembly back to the front of the automobile. The release cable will be there, slithering from the hinge region, around the sides of the boot on the driver’s side, to the lock mechanism at the center of the back face of the lid. You might have to move carpet or tear off cardboard panels, but it will still be there. The area where it joins the lock assembly in the middle of the lid may be where you may get a better hold of it. Between the exterior skin and the inner metal framework, it will be located inside the boot lid itself. If you can grab it here, move in that direction. In most situations, doing so will cause the release to pop, at which point you may easily push up on the lid to open the boot (after the release pops, otherwise, it will stick).
You can still open the latch by locating the lock cylinder if this doesn’t work or if the kidnappers are such cheapskate that they discovered a car without an internal release. It will be in the center, on either side, or on the back of the boot lid. The latch mechanism will be connected to the lock cylinder by a rod or other similar connection device, which should be accessible through open portions of the sheet metal lid. To determine which direction the lock pulls the rod to pop the latch, grab this and drag it side to side.
In essence, that is all there is to it. Since many automobiles have a dash light that flashes when the boot is open, I advise feeling out the different components first and only doing the action when you believe the car has stopped. Get out as soon as the boot is opened. Get off the road and run. If you move quickly and stealthily, you may be able to close the boot and even slink away before they discover your absence at the organ farm, sex dungeon, or other location.
