There isn’t any glue used; instead, the symbol’s edges and the actual emblem are attached with a few clips. I took the badge off as a trial. I’ll post more pictures of me removing the rear emblem a second time and installing the new one as soon as my OEM piano black rear emblem is delivered!
Method:
1. Gently insert a small flat-head screwdriver into the emblem’s bottom-hole hole using the small screwdriver. It will require some force. Work it slowly until you can put the corner of an old credit card into the space that is made. (Image taken from a SquareSpokes post.)
2. After loosening the badge, begin loosening it around the borders by inserting an old credit card or plastic card. (Image taken from the VWGolf website)
3. Push the card all the way through to the W’s bottom half. Three clips can be seen inside the letter W as can be seen in the photographs below. If you slightly twist the card as you push it through the bottom side of the “W,” you will hear a pop sound.
See illustration to see where the emblem attaches to the back latch:
Check out the small clips on the “Wcenter “‘s that fit into the rear trunk release latch’s center, as well as the clips that fit into the outside borders (note the 8 tiny squares along the emblem’s outside edge):
These tiny clips fit into the holes below, and clips are used to secure the outer edges (scroll to the next image further down).
4. Do not move straight to the top of the W after popping the first clip in the lower half of the W. Instead, move to the opposite side and pop the second clip out.
5. After removing the lower half’s two outer edges, push the card into the middle to release the central clip.
6. Now see that the emblem’s outer edges are not being held in place by clips. However, the symbol is held in place by grooves. Now that the bottom half is entirely loose, you’ll need to begin gently moving the card along both of the emblem’s sides.
The grooves that attach to the inside edge of the back emblem are seen in the following image:
7. Using your card, begin twisting the card to remove the clips on the top half of the W after both upper outer edges and the bottom half of the emblem are loose.
How do I get rid of my T4 front badge?
Your Transporter’s rear emblems have likely seen better days, so if you want to take them off either permanently or temporarily to give them some TLC, here’s how to do it.
I’m attempting to paint my entire vehicle black and red. These dated-looking chrome rear insignia had been nagging me for a very long time.
It requires some patience and ability to get rid of them. A hairdryer and some fishing line are also required.
- These badges are firmly attached; if the adhesive is warmed by the hairdryer, they will come off a little more easily.
- Put your line of fishing in between the badge and the van.
- Utilize a back-and-forth sawing motion with the fishing line.
- Keep continuing even when the fishing line frequently overheats and breaks.
- You’ll eventually get to the end and the badge will be free.
Before reattaching the emblems, you should have some filthy residue left on the van, which you will need to clean off.
The VW insignia on the back should just pull free. To leave the van, just pull away while holding the VW logo. This logo is divided into two parts: the chrome VW emblem and the rubber black circle. I chose to paint the chrome logo black, therefore I painted the black rubber section the same red as the van in order to make it stand out.
every time before painting:
- Apply a solid primer coat.
- Dry completely.
- Degrease and clean with sugar soap.
- Make sure to paint in a warm, draft-free, and clean environment.
- Apply many top coats.
- Utilizing fine sandpaper, polish the badges (something like 1000 grit)
To secure them, I used some 3M double-sided tape since it holds them in place tenaciously.
