What’s the deal with the mirror button?
The power mirror switch only operates the side mirrors. The internal rearview mirror can only be adjusted manually. There are three settings for the power mirror switch: left, off, and right. If the button is pressed with the switch in the center, neither mirror will move. This prevents the mirrors from moving in the event that the directional control button is unintentionally pressed.
The mirror motor may travel in four directions using the directional control button: up, down, right, and left. The side mirror motor circuit is energized at the switch if the switch is moved to either the left or right side. The mirror motor inside the mirror housing will swivel the mirror glass in the direction you choose when you click the directional control button on the switch. The mirror halts its movement when the button is released.
In order to protect the mirror glass, the mirror motor can only move a certain distance. The motor will click and bind when the travel limit is reached until the directional control button is released. When the button is pressed past its breaking point, the mirror motor ultimately burns out and stops working, requiring replacement.
