First off, it looks good from the outside! They have the new 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander looking very chiseled and tough in terms of seven-seater SUVs.
It is also considerably more attractive and modern on the inside. Since this is the high-end Exceed model, it also has a big media screen and quilted leather seats. It now distinctly feels as though it outperforms its competitors.
Other than the Skoda Kodiaq (actually in the next size up), this Exceed model is one of the few cars of this size I have tried that includes built-in window blinds in the back doors, especially in the five-seater models.
Mitsubishi has also made the BEST modification to the second-row seats for family practicality by getting rid of the central seat buckle, which used to stick way up in the air and made it impossible to install a child seat in the center seat.
This is great news for families and anyone who wants to sit in the center seat because all the seatbelt buckles now rest flat in the seat bases.
The second-row seats have been made somewhat wider to accommodate kid seats, so we could easily insert three Infasecure child seats across the second row. One Infasecure Achieve More seat and two Infasecure Attain More seats fit perfectly.
The two out seats have their top tether anchorages on the rear of the seatbacks, while the center seat’s anchorage is in the third-row ceiling. There are three top tether anchorages for the second-row seats. Which does imply that it is in the third-row passengers’ faces.
I set up three Infasecure kid seats that face forward. The forward-facing Achieve More, Aspire More, and Attain More child seats fit quite well. A second-row forward-facing kid seat allows a driver or passenger who is 186 cm tall to sit in front of them without compromising their legroom.
A 186cm passenger can fit in the front with rear-facing kid seats, but in the seven-seater vehicle, it’s actually a little snug on the driver’s side.
We discovered that even though I am 162 cm, I could just fit in the driver’s seat in front of a rear-facing kid seat with the second-row seat in its most rearward position. The third row was the same; my height was barely accommodated by the legroom.
You couldn’t install a child seat in the third row since there are no top tether anchorages or ISOFix, but you could install one or two Infasecure Versatile Folding Boosters for older children because they are light enough to not need top tether straps.
I discovered that I couldn’t accomplish this with kid seats installed and needed to uninstall at least one in order to fold the second-row seat down flat, which is how you reach the third row.
