Do Lexus vehicles come in diesel form?
I have been thinking about the IS we don’t get in Europe, the diesel-powered IS220d, after driving laps around California’s Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway in the magnificent new Lexus IS F sedan and, at the other end of the spectrum, a leisurely week behind the wheel of the more sensible (but still engaging) IS250 (pictured above). Even the pickiest of European automotive journalists have praised the IS220d, the first and only diesel-powered Lexus model (and one of only a few Toyota products with a diesel engine). This is true even when the car is directly compared to its well-established rivals, the BMW 320d and the Audi A4 2.0TDI. Even when pitted against the popular diesel-powered Honda Accord in Europe, it performed admirably (which is essentially the U.S.-market Acura TSX). Additionally, Honda intends to include its i-DTEC clean diesel engine in the upcoming iteration of the Euro-spec Accord and US-spec TSX. not to mention that new diesel vehicles from BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen will soon arrive in the United States. Why would Toyota employ the IS220d to break into the diesel market, despite its previous sole focus on gasoline-electric hybrid powertrains? The 2.2-liter turbodiesel four (seen in the image to the right above) generates 175 horsepower and a staggering 295 pound-feet of torque. The 3.5-liter gasoline V-6 in the IS350 is 110 more powerful than the 2.5-liter gasoline V-6 in my IS250 test vehicle. So the IS220d wouldn’t exactly be a performance disaster when it got here. But the moderate thirst of the diesel-fed IS is unquestionably more notable than its willingness to play: Compared to the rear-wheel-drive IS250’s 21/29 mpg and the IS350’s 18/25 mpg, the vehicle gets 30 mpg (U.S. gallons) in the city and 44 mpg on the highway. Still not persuaded? Consider that the IS220d uses less gasoline per mile than any Lexus, Toyota, or Scion vehicle on the market in America, hybrids included, with the exception of the Prius (48/45 mpg city/highway). So go for it, Lexus. America is likely prepared.
Is there a diesel engine made by Lexus?
As India switches to BS6 standards the next year, Lexus has confirmed to us that they would not be providing diesel engine options in their portfolio. The only SUV model offered by the Japanese luxury automaker is the LX 450d, which has a diesel engine that, according to the manufacturer, won’t be modified to meet BS6 emission standards.
Do Lexus SUVs come in diesel form?

If Lexus does create a diesel SUV, it will probably be an LX, GX, or a completely new model.
Given that the crossover is currently available as a hybrid, a diesel RX appears unlikely to fit.
(When you pair this with last week’s suggestion of a potential LX hybrid, it’s plausible that Lexus’ larger SUVs may get a powertrain makeover.)
