Destroyer Gray is one of the colors that people seek for the most online, so it seems that people enjoyed it a lot more than Dodge anticipated. Destroyer Gray is an innovative idea that brings the gravitas of Dodge’s powerful vehicles, such as the Hemi, Scat Pack, and Hellcat, while also offering owners a slight advantage over law enforcement through camouflage (one Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Mississippi … ). The recent speeding ticket I received could have easily been avoided with Destroyer Gray paint, but that can’t be the cause of my sudden interest in Dodge Destroyer Gray.
What Does Destroyer Gray Look Like?
When Destroyer Gray first came out in 2016, Granite Crystal Metallic Clear Coat (also known as Raider Gray, the color of my neighbor’s Scat Pack), and Billet Silver Metallic Clear Coat were the closest alternatives you could get. Both include metalflake in the paint coat, unlike Destroyer Gray, with Granite Crystal seeming substantially darker than Destroyer Gray and Billet Metallic looking noticeably lighter. The non-metallic medium gray paint trend was initially popular with European performance vehicles (I’m thinking of Audi’s Nardo Gray), and American manufacturers naturally followed suit. Why not try it on a muscle car, much like Detroit did during the first round with muscle cars? The subdued color and discreet non-metallic tint radiated high-end European luxury performance. Destroyer Gray just appears to be upscale.
Does Dodge Still Make Destroyer Gray?
2017 saw the debut of Dodge Destroyer Gray on the Dodge Charger, Challenger, and Durango. For the 2017, 2018, and 2019 models, it was offered on all trim levels. However, starting in 2020, everything save the Durango was no longer offered in Destroyer Gray. Why is that so? The paint shop’s restrictions at the assembly plant in Brampton, Ontario, have always been known to us (the only source for the Charger and Challenger). The press lauded it as a significant advancement for Daimler-Chrysler when it was set up for initial production of the LX platform for the 2005 model year, and Brampton’s paint shop was one of the standouts.
Why Is Dodge Killing Destroyer Gray?
However, diversity is sacrificed for quality, and switching between metallic and non-metallic paint colors is a bother that necessitates additional complexity; it’s untidy and expensive. Dodge would have had to coordinate some challenging paint shop switchovers during the year in order to include some of the intriguing boutique colors that emerged from customer clinics at the annual Spring Festival of LXs (Sinamon Stick, Frostbite, Gold Rush, and Hellraisin). We have a good reason to believe that Destroyer Gray died; to our color-obsessed eye, it’s not really a horrible sacrifice. However, considering that the Durango is constructed at the Detroit-based Jefferson North Assembly facility, there may have been a case to be made for keeping Destroyer Gray on the vehicle given its diverse customer base. Do they still produce Destroyer Gray at Dodge? Yes, but only on the Durango, is the answer. Is Smoke Show the Same as Destroyer Gray?
The non-metallic color Smoke Show was first presented with the arrival of the 2020 Dodges. With the exception of its polished clearcoat, this gray hue has an uncanny resemblance to gray primer, according to fans of Dodge performance products. It is lighter and somewhat more blue than Destroyer Gray. Although Smoke Show doesn’t have the high-impact color Dodges are known for, the moniker is nevertheless powerful and expresses the rabid nature of these talented artists. Are Smoke Show and Destroyer Gray the same thing? Smoke Show is the spiritual offspring of Destroyer Gray, simply brighter and with the tiniest hint of pastel blue added (note: you probably won’t be as invisible as you would with Destroyer Gray!). Smoke Show is clearly different from Destroyer Gray, and you would probably not confuse the two. Dodge’s color and style staff made a few minor adjustments to Destroyer Gray rather than completely eliminating it in order to get a better reaction. It is called Smoke Show because, rather obviously, it couldn’t have the same name without creating confusion.
