Audi owns Silvercar, right?
Audi announced on Thursday that it was purchasing Silvercar, a luxury car rental company with offices in Texas.
No deal terms were disclosed, but the German automaker, which is a part of the VW Group, stated in a statement that “Audi joined in a $28 million Series C investment in Silvercar” in 2015.
The two businesses have been collaborating since 2012 to create and provide cutting-edge consumer mobility services under the Audi mobility, Silvercar, and Dealerware brands, according to Audi.
According to Matt Carpenter, chief financial officer of Audi of America, “Audi and Silvercar share a vision for the future of mobility.” “This acquisition allows Audi to advance alongside a forward-thinking partner and maintain our technological leadership into the next era of mobility,” the company said.
The acquisition is the most recent action taken by reputable automakers to revolutionize mobility. In the previous year, General Motors, Ford, and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles have made investments in or outright purchases of businesses. Google and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles have teamed up to create self-driving cars.
On the company website, Silvercar CEO Luke Schneider stated, “It’s no secret that Silvercar and Audi have a lengthy connection. Heck, this is the only Audi A4 we’ve ever hired.
“I believe that we are on the cusp of the most fundamental changes in the 120-year history of modern personal transportation,” he continued, “as does the Silvercar team.”
The purchase is expected to be completed in the first half of 2017, according to Audi, “[t]he businesses expect approval of the transaction by applicable regulatory authorities.”

Audi Dealerships are the New Pickup Locations
We then began contacting Silvercar airport sites. Multiple branch representatives verified that Silvercar is abandoning all of its current airport locations because of the epidemic. In essence, Silvercar activities will relocate from airport locations to Audi dealerships outside of airports.

Out of frustration with some of the issues encountered by conventional car rental firms, Silvercar was founded in 2012. My family’s preferred method of renting automobiles across the nation was rapidly established by the business, which abandoned the conventional car rental playbook. It provided a fleet made up exclusively of Audi vehicles, and in some situations, it would pick you up and drop you off at the terminal. The business did not impose exorbitant toll or petrol station fees, nor did it impose additional costs for ski racks or premium car seats.
Audi fully purchased Silvercar in 2017, and since then there have been more pick-up locations, Audi vehicle types, a vehicle delivery option, the introduction of a rewards program based on points, and other changes.
However, it appears that 2020 will be really terrible news for passengers that use Silvercar. All of Silvercar’s airport rental locations will shut down by December 6, as was initially reported by AutoSlash and confirmed by TPG.
Several Silvercar airport stations have closed during the past few months in well-known tourist destinations, including John Wayne, Orange County (SNA), and Orlando International Airport (MCO), among others. Silvercar provided TPG with the following statement in order to corroborate the news:
“All Silvercar by Audi airport locations will close by December 6 due to the evolving travel landscape. Customers can still purchase Silvercar by Audi at our in-town and dealership locations. Customers who already made reservations for the airport have been informed and given the choice to cancel or complete their bookings at our in-town locations, where available, along with a $50 gift card for a future in-town rental. With an immediate focus on Audi dealerships, Silvercar by Audi will soon be establishing new in-town sites as it continues to quickly grow its network.
You cannot book after December 5 when you attempt to make a new Silvercar reservation at the airport pickup sites that are still open as of this day. Instead, you are limited to local and dealership sites around the United States. Local Audi dealership rental locations are listed on Silvercar’s website for places including Henderson (close to Las Vegas), Ft. Lauderdale, Denver, Seattle, Dallas, Orlando, Tampa, Houston, and more.
People who already have Silvercar bookings can modify them to pick up at one of these sites, as noted in the message.
A nearby dealership, however, may not necessarily be the best choice. Audi owner and Silvercar enthusiast Matt Lischin, whose December appointment was canceled, tells TPG: “I have rented multiple times, but never a city location; I always go to the airport. Unfortunately, this move is really inconvenient, and I can’t imagine myself in a situation where it would be necessary to travel another 30-plus minutes to a dealer after arriving (and the same in reverse).
Contacting Silvercar to inquire about other options is worthwhile if you have an airport rental. According to Autoslash, a Lyft trip from the airport to an appropriate Audi dealer location might be offered in some circumstances. However, in other circumstances, you’ll probably have to arrange a new vehicle rental reservation on your own.
I strongly suggest contacting the business in a proactive manner. In many places, it might be difficult to find cheap car bookings, especially if you need a particular kind of vehicle, like an SUV. Losing a highly sought-after holiday car rental reservation could put visitors who are planning to hit the road in an even tighter bind. This is especially alarming given the fact that there is already a rental car scarcity happening in some places.
Any clients who have had a reservation cancelled are nevertheless eligible for a $50 credit toward their subsequent in-town rental. If you are impacted by this change, be sure to acquire your discount code and apply it to your subsequent rental. You may find it useful if you need a new set of wheels to get around town because it’s a good deal.

Uses Berbix Silvercar?
In order to prevent fraud and free up staff members to concentrate on expanding the company, Silvercar by Audi uses Berbix to validate customer IDs.
Car rental is not a risk-free venture. Audi rented vehicles from Silvercar that were either stolen, returned late, or rented using fraudulent credit cards.
Without overburdening their staff, Silvercar required a straightforward means to ward off bad behavior. To complete the task, they looked to Berbix, an immediate and automated ID verification service.
Company
Silvercar, which was established in 2012, invented the touchless rental car process. With amenities like free in-car Wi-Fi, complimentary premium car seats, and a fleet made up entirely of luxury Audi vehicles, Silvercar by Audi offers hassle-free, paperless car rentals. In order to support their aim of giving consumers a hassle-free car rental experience while also helping to dissuade undesirable actors, Silvercar realized they needed to implement an ID check solution as they continued to expand.
One of our initial theories was that we would send these verifications to fraudsters and they would immediately disappear from the funnel, according to Silvercar.
Problem
The Silvercar concierges manually checked each renter’s driver’s license prior to the invention of Berbix. The information on the ID must match the credit card and profile information provided, and the renter’s age will also be verified by the concierge. Silvercar would charge the renter’s credit card and give them the keys to a silver Audi if everything appeared to be in order. But these manual inspections weren’t always reliable. State-by-state variations in ID appearance make it challenging to identify the correct indicators when attempting to confirm the validity of an ID.
We observed visitors arriving with very authentic-looking cards who weren’t necessarily from the same state. According to Silvercar, we had no idea what to search for on all of these licenses.
Additionally, Silvercar staff members occasionally lacked the time to thoroughly review customer identification, ignoring clear signs of fraud. Even the most suspect renters weren’t turned away because they lacked the knowledge to clearly recognize when someone was supplying fabricated information.
Despite their best efforts, Silvercar was unable to come up with a solution that met their service standards, deterred fraud, and relieved their concierges of the burden of checking customers’ IDs. At that time, Silvercar discovered Berbix.
Solution
Employees at Silvercar can swiftly verify consumers without having to verify the IDs personally thanks to Berbix’s instant and automated ID check solution, putting a stop to fraudsters and allowing staff to concentrate on business-related activities.
To eliminate risky guesswork, Silvercar utilized Berbix’s quick and totally automated ID verification. The ultimate deterrent to any fraudsters attempting to rent with Silvercar is selfie and liveness verification.
Silvercar considered having an ID verification system to be one of the greatest strategies to safeguard their company:
One of our initial theories was that we would send these verifications to fraudsters and they would immediately disappear from the funnel, according to Silvercar. They won’t want to take a picture of their face, and they won’t want to
Summary
A solution like Berbixs ID verification can aid micromobility businesses in expanding while lowering risk. With Berbix’s built-in security measures, Silvercar personnel can be sure that their renters are who they claim to be while having more time to devote to mission-critical duties.
