The revised 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine in the more renowned yet equally enticing Audi RS 5 may produce more horsepower. Nevertheless, the 2022 Audi RS 3 has a smaller overall footprint, making it more maneuverable around curves. And when a powerful engine is crammed into a compact vehicle like the RS 3, it is capable of navigating one of the world’s most treacherous courses, the Nrburgring Nordschleife. The new Audi RS 3 set a new lap record for compact vehicles, but it isn’t fast enough to rank among the fastest production cars on the Nurburgring.
The 2022 Audi RS 3 finished a full lap of the 12.9-mile Nrburgring Nordschleife in seven minutes and 40.748 seconds (7:40.7), exceeding the previous record-holder, the Renault Megane RS Trophy-R, by a whole 4.64 seconds. The driver was German professional racer Frank Stippler.

The Audi RS3 is turbocharged, right?
Along with new variants of the A3 and S3, the boisterous little Audi RS 3 compact sedan’s second generation is now available for purchase, and it offers even more performance and pleasure.
With its turbocharged 5-cylinder engine, the RS 3 has always been a charming eccentric, and it keeps going in that direction with additional power. The 2.5-liter turbo-5 increases its output to 401 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque from 394 and 354 respectively for the previous model, and with a starting price of $59,995 that includes a $1,095 destination fee, it’s not a bad deal.
The increased torque helps with acceleration at low revs and peaks between 2,250 and 5,600 rpm. The horsepower begins to develop early at 5,600 rpm. With the optional carbon-ceramic brakes, the RS 3 can reach a high speed of 180 mph (other variants have top speeds of 155 and 174 mph), and it can lap the Nurburgring in 7:40.748 seconds thanks to its power.
A 7-speed dual-clutch transmission with what Audi considers a sharper gear-ratio distribution distributes power to all four wheels.
A straightforward limited-slip differential that was unable to distribute torque among the rear wheels is replaced by the RS Torque Splitter. This Haldex differential distributes power between the rear wheels, sending up to 1,290 lb-ft of torque to the outside rear wheel (after torque multiplication from the driveline). Multi-disc clutches are located on each rear axle shaft. By reducing both oversteer and understeer, torque vectoring will undoubtedly improve handling. Audi can also add a new RS Torque Rear setting that lets the RS 3 drift thanks to this.
The RS 3 also offers new Efficiency mode in addition to RS Performance, Comfort, Auto, Dynamic, and RS Individual modes. The torque splitter, engine, transmission, steering assistance, adaptive dampers, and exhaust flaps all exhibit different behaviors depending on the mode.
Audi claims that the RS Performance mode, which is tuned for the recently released Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires, or R-compound semi-slicks, gives the finest track performance.
Additional modes for the stability control include standard, sport, and off. RS Performance mode is always followed by Sport mode.
In order to increase the vehicle’s agility, a new modular vehicle dynamics controller gathers information about the lateral dynamics of the vehicle and coordinates the torque splitter, available adaptive dampers, and torque at specific wheels.
There will be several suspension options for the RS 3. New shocks with quicker-reacting compression and rebound valves will be included in the basic version. Adaptive dampers with cozy, well-balanced, and athletic damping curves are used in an RS Sport suspension. The suspension now has almost 1 degree of negative camber to increase grip in corners. In addition to using sturdier bearings, subframes, and stabilizer bars, Audi redesigned the pivot bearings to account for the greater negative camber. The independent four-link rear suspension includes separate springs and dampers. The front track is 1.3 inches wider than the rear track, which is 0.4 inches wider, and the car sits 0.4 inches lower than the upcoming 306-hp S3.
The RS 3 has variable-ratio steering from Audi, which accelerates as the steering angle rises.
Front discs on the RS 3 are 14.8 inches in diameter as standard, but alternative 15-inch carbon-ceramic front discs are also available. Both have larger brake pads, greater cooling, and 6-piston calipers. For carbon-ceramic brakes, customers can select from gray, red, or blue calipers, while iron brakes receive either red or black calipers.
Audi equips the RS 3 with 19-inch wheels that are available in either a five-Y-spoke design or a conventional 10-spoke design. The optional Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires offer the highest potential performance improvement. The track driving experience will benefit from these R-compound semi-slicks.
The body of the RS 3 is longer by around 1.6 inches, has a larger grille, and has more body sculpting than the original A3. New cooling vents that resemble gills are located behind the front wheels. Additionally, the RS 3 receives LED headlights, taillights, optional matrix LED headlights, and daytime running lights with a checkered flag pattern. The checkered flag is lit while you’re driving and is a component of a start-up and shut-off sequence. Black gloss or matte finishes are available for the honeycomb grille. For their RS 3s, buyers can select any color as long as it is Kyalami Green or Kemora Gray.
The 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit digital gauge cluster from Audi has bar graph displays for power and torque inside the RS 3. Additionally, while the transmission is in manual mode, it has a shift light. The newly available head-up display can now optionally display the shift light as well. Performance displays for g forces, lap times, and acceleration runs are added by the optional Virtual Cockpit Plus. A 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen that may display additional gauges is also included with the RS 3.
The interior of the RS 3 also has a flat-bottom steering wheel, shift paddles made of diecast zinc, and an instrument panel made of carbon fiber. The RS insignia is imprinted into the RS sport seats. They are made of nappa leather and have honeycomb stitching in black, red, and now green.
The RS 3 is also available in a sporty hatchback body type that’s as stylish as hell and harkens back to the early 2000s BMW M Coupe. Sadly, no plans exist to import the Sportback into the United States.
What turbo is used by the Audi RS3?
Our brand-new Turbo TTE700 was conceptualized and created for 2.5L TFSi 3rd generation engines with the VAG group’s “MQB” platform. It is based on a typical turbocharger made by BorgWarner.
We chose the TTE700 compressor wheel because its body is substantially wider than the TTE 500 wheels and because it produces an extraordinarily high flow for its size. To ensure optimal compressor efficiency, we reshape the compressor’s surface to an optimized tolerance.
The turbine and shaft are BorgWarner components, thus we CNC modify the exhaust turbine body to suit a larger turbine from its shaft.
By reducing the blade area of the wheel, clipping results in safer rpm by increasing gas flow, reducing contraction, and lowering exhaust gas temperatures.
This clipping also offers a secondary benefit by removing material, lightening the impeller, increasing the moment of inertia and the spool, and decreasing the rotating mass.
To ensure a seamless transition from the head to the exhaust channel for maximum gas velocity and hence increase the efficiency of the larger turbine, care is taken with the CNC port of the exhaust sidewalls at the flange. To construct a turbo hybrid, TTE will disassemble the existing turbo and alter all the internal and external elements to generate CNC parts that can be easily adaptable to 2.5L engines (transverse engines). Unlike other engines, this turbo doesn’t require any shims or adapters for enlargement.
suitable for:
- TTRS Audi
- RS3 Audi
We present you with two options:
1 / You purchase a new turbo and keep the first turbo. 2 / After TTE modifies your original Turbo, you send it to us, and we return it back to you.
You must send us your original turbo in functioning condition, not a copy, a broken turbo, or something like, if you choose option number 2, or we will send your turbo back to you and retain a 15% markup on the entire amount you paid.
A very essential aspect is the accurate balancing of ALL TTE TURBOS. In order to achieve a lot more durable longevity that leads to an improved performance, we work to maintain a degree of balance that is superior to that of the manufacturers. Acoustics are also enhanced by good balance. Depending on the application, the CHRA are dynamically balanced at speeds up to 250,000 rpm with multiple bearings using our in-house VSR machine after the components have been assembled. This process starts with the parts being balanced at low speeds up to 2800 rpm with several bearing using our specific machines. Our balances are far more exacting and superior to OEM requirements. Each turbocharger has a unique serial number and a certificate with the results of the balance test.

The RS3 sedan, according to Audi, had not undergone any modifications before to the lap run.
After breaking a new lap timing record at the Nrburgring Nordschleife of 7:40.748 minutes, the new Audi RS3 sedan has surpassed all other compact cars as the quickest vehicle. According to a press statement from the German luxury automaker, in June 2021, Audi Sport racing and development driver Frank Stippler improved upon the previous lap record for the compact class by 4.64 seconds.
How many horses does an Audi RS3 have?
The same 2.5-liter inline-five turbocharged engine from the previous RS3 is still used, but has undergone several changes that increase its power and torque. The new RS3 has 7 horsepower and 15 pound-feet more torque than the previous 2020 RS3 built to U.S. specifications, giving it 401 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. Audi claims it will reach 62 mph in 3.8 seconds, but given that we were able to accelerate a previous-generation RS3 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, we believe it will be faster. All models now come standard with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, and a variable exhaust should produce a distinctive five-cylinder sound.
Torque vectoring is a component of the improved all-wheel-drive system of the RS3. Depending on the driving mode chosen, it redirects power in a different way. For track-based drifting, there is a mode dubbed RS Torque Rear that can send torque to just one rear wheel.
A Audi RS3’s braking horsepower rating.
When you upgrade to the optional two-tone 19-inch alloy wheels, you really receive front tires that are wider than rear tires, which helps slightly increase the front end’s grip. However, the RS 3 will eventually run wide in a turn because of the big five-cylinder engine that hangs over the axle and the four-wheel drive system that is tuned for maximum traction over agility. On a dry road, though, those limits are so high that they are rarely achieved.
Engines
The Audi RS 3’s 2.5-liter, five-cylinder turbocharged engine provides explosive performance. With 480Nm (up from 365Nm) and 395bhp (up from 362bhp in the pre-facelift car), you have tremendous performance available whenever you need it.
The RS 3 is said to sprint to 62 mph in 4.1 seconds thanks to four-wheel drive, which maximizes traction right off the mark. The top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph; however, for an additional 1,600 dollars, Audi will adjust the speed limiter so that the top speed is now 174 mph. But for something that hardly anyone will use, that’s a lot of extra money.
Although there isn’t a manual gearbox option, the RS 3 is perfectly content to let the seven-speed twin-clutch S tronic auto effortlessly change gears thanks to those substantial torque statistics. As with any other A3 in the lineup, trickling through town in a higher gear is comfortable, but kick up the pace and the gearbox reacts quickly to the paddles positioned on the wheel.
What makes the new RS3 so pricey?
The top-spec Vorsprung, whether you choose the hatchback or saloon, is in group 40, while the regular RS 3 is in group 35. That is basically comparable to the group 41 Mercedes-AMG A 45, so obtain a price before making a purchase. Due to its intricate suspension system and highly tuned engine, the RS 3 will probably cost more to maintain than a conventional A3, and it will use up consumables like tyres more quickly. When it comes time to replace the (expensive) optional ceramic brakes, prepare for a sizable additional expense.
Compared to the Mercedes, which at least receives unlimited mileage over the same time period, the RS 3’s warranty is quite standard at three years and 60,000 miles. For about 500 and 1,000, respectively, you can increase your warranty coverage to four years and 75,000 miles or five years and 90,000 miles.
Engines, drive & performance
The 2.5-liter, five-cylinder, turbocharged gasoline engine in the RS 3 produces the same 395 horsepower as the previous generation. However, acceleration has improved since more of the power is now available at lower revs. The new RS 3 is the fastest hot hatch on the market, taking just 3.8 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph, a tenth of a second faster than the 415 horsepower Mercedes-AMG A45 S. If you’re going to do a lot of racetrack driving, you can choose to remove the speed limiter so the car can go up to 180 mph.
The RS 3 has always been quick going straight, but has always disappointed in turns. The RS 3 now sits 10mm lower than even the Audi S3 thanks to a new suspension system that has been installed to enhance that aspect of the vehicle. The RS 3 keeps you entertained and wanting more, but the S3 leaves you feeling cold.
