How is the passenger airbag activated?
If the vehicle has a switch called the Passenger Airbag Cut Off Switch, it can be used to deactivate the passenger airbag (PACOS).
When the passenger door is open, you may access the switch for the passenger airbag on the passenger side of the instrument panel.

However, it’s crucial that you turn off the airbag if they must, for any reason, ride in the front passenger seat with their child restraint system. We’ve already talked about how dangerous airbags can be for kids and when to disable them. The fact is that children are especially at risk from the passenger airbag when they are in a rear-facing seat (390 KB). Children who are equal to or less than 1.35 cm in height must ride in the back seats using an approved child restraint system appropriate for their size and weight, according to Article 117 of the General Traffic Law in Spain, which applies to vehicles with up to nine seats, including the driver’s seat. Only three unusual situations allow them to ride in the front passenger seat: when there are no rear seats in the car, when every back seat is currently filled by kids wearing child restraints, or when it is difficult to install a child restraint system in the back seats. The Regulation also stipulates that rear-facing child restraint systems may only be used if the airbag has been disengaged if a kid must travel in the front passenger seat for any of the aforementioned reasons and the vehicle is fitted with a passenger airbag. Additionally, it is advised to steer clear of transporting youngsters under the age of 12 in the front passenger seat whenever possible (even if one of the three exceptions mentioned above occur). The airbag’s primary function is to prevent the head of the passenger from colliding with the windshield. When a youngster is sitting in the front passenger seat, it can be very harmful because it emerges at a speed of 200 km/h. A toddler could be wholly suffocated or even crushed against the seat. Keep in mind that the youngster is significantly closer to the airbag and the explosion happens closer to the child’s head if the child is in a child restraint system. The child’s head is even closer to the windscreen if the seat is rear-facing.
The passenger airbag light continues to be on.
Only when there is an issue with the airbag system in the car should the airbag warning light remain illuminated. The car’s computer runs a system check each time you turn the key. In order to demonstrate that it is functioning, the light briefly illuminates before turning off.
Should the passenger airbag be deactivated?
The Passenger Air Bag Off Light in the dash will illuminate if the passenger sensing system determines that no one is occupying the passenger front seat or if a number of other circumstances apply. It’s critical that you understand what this means:
- Front passenger airbag is not deployed.
- You can also not have the passenger air bag deployed.
- In the event of a collision, the air bag will not deploy.
When an adult-sized passenger is seated in the front seat and the Passenger Air Bag Off Light is illuminated, this typically indicates that the person is not seated properly.
Have the automobile inspected if the passenger adjusts their position and the light does not go out.
It might be necessary to shut off and restart the engine to get the light to turn off.

Every time the ignition is turned on, the warning lamp Link will briefly illuminate.
The reminder indicator lighting “PASS. AIRBAG OFF” or “AIRBAG OFF” will always be illuminated if the front passenger’s airbag has been deactivated Fig. 2.
The seat belt warning lamp for the front passenger Link is likewise turned off when the front passenger’s airbag is disconnected.
- The front passenger’s airbag must be turned off before installing a rearward-facing child seat on the front passenger’s seat if you have no other choice. If the front passenger’s airbag is not disabled, the youngster may get injuries that could be deadly Link!
- As soon as the kid seat is no longer required, if you have disabled the front passenger airbag, enable it again so that it can continue to provide the necessary safety.
- The driver must make sure that the key-operated switch is in the appropriate position.
If the front passenger’s airbag has been deactivated using the key-operated switch, none of the other airbags in the vehicle will stop working.
In an Audi Q5, how do you deactivate the passenger airbag?
