When loading the automobile, remove the coverings -3 and -4 if any articles of luggage do not fit under the covers that protect the luggage compartments.
Pull the fasteners -1 off the studs to release the cover from the boot lid, as shown in Fig. 1. The cover can now be removed from the retainers by pulling it in the arrow-pointing direction.
Pull the cover in the luggage compartment toward the back (Fig. 2) to remove it.
Slide the cover into the retainers -2- to keep it in place on the interior of the boot lid.

Without a key, how do you open the boot of an Audi A3?
Without touching the remote control key, the front doors and boot lid can be locked and unlocked.
Grab the driver’s or front passenger door handle to automatically open the door (see Fig. 1).
To lock the Audi A3, close the door and briefly contact the sensor on the driver’s door handle while in position P (automatic transmission).
WARNING!. Do not grasp the door handle at the same time.
Only the front doors and boot lid can lock and unlock the Audi A3. The necessary door or boot lid must be within a distance of the remote control key of about 1.5 meters. It makes no difference where you keep the key, such as in your jacket pocket, a handbag, or a briefcase.
If you hold on to the door handle while the Audi A3 is being locked, the locking mechanism may be impacted.
Once the doors are locked, they cannot be quickly unlocked. You can use this to make sure the driver’s door is properly closed.
Depending on your choices on the driver information system* (MMI*) Link, the system will either open the entire Audi A3 or only one door.
Avoid leaving anyone inside an Audi A3 equipped with an anti-theft alarm system* if the safelock mechanism* is engaged and the doors and windows cannot be opened from the inside Link. This goes double for kids. Locked doors could prevent help from arriving in an emergency, possibly endangering lives.
applies to Audi A3s with the START ENGINE STOP* button and the start/stop system: When the start/stop mechanism shuts off the engine, the ignition stays on. Make sure to turn off the ignition before leaving the Audi A3 Link. The Audi A3 cannot be locked if this is the case.
If the Audi A3 is parked for an extended period of time, please take note of the following:
- The proximity sensors are turned off after a few days in order to conserve electricity. The Audi A3 will then need to be unlocked and opened by first pulling the door handle once, and then twice.
- The power management system gradually turns off convenience features that are not needed in order to keep the battery from being depleted and maintain the Audi A3’s starting ability for as long as possible. This handy feature might not work in this situation to unlock the Audi A3.
How is the boot on an Audi A3 manually opened?
Depending on the Audi A3 model, there are different procedures for manually opening the boot lid. To pry off the cover, use the ignition key’s blade (Fig. 1). The boot will not unlock until you insert the key into the hole under the cover (position 2) and pull it in the arrow’s direction.

Don the boot covers. Ensure that the boot or shoe coverings fit snugly over your ankle and calf and that the entire foot is protected. If the strap on your boot covers is adjustable, wrap it around for a snug fit. When putting the shoe coverings on, try to avoid touching the floor or any other surfaces with your hands. If so, wash your hands well before putting on your inner gloves.
