Use Google Earth by Audi?
I just noticed that my R8 and RS3’s navigation systems weren’t displaying Google Earth imagery. When I double-checked my myconnect account, which still had another year left, I discovered the following:
In 2012, Google and Audi teamed up to deliver an industry first in our navigation systems: Google Earth imagery. Google’s delivery system for Google Earth imagery is a work in progress that is continually being updated. Google Earth will no longer work with some 2018 and earlier Audi model year devices as of December 31st, 2020.
After 12/31/20, affected vehicles won’t be able to get Google Earth images on the navigation screen as a result of this change. Rest assured that as long as there is an appropriate service network to support them, all other Audi connect services will continue to be accessible. A software upgrade that will enable the ongoing usage of satellite imagery is available for a limited number of 2017 and 2018 models. Please refer to the FAQ that is included below to determine whether your vehicle qualifies for this software upgrade.
Anyone who has noticed this? Anyone visited Audi for an MMI upgrade since some cars qualify. My r8 is an early 2017 model, therefore it can’t receive CarPlay, so I’m worried that it won’t be able to obtain the patch. I’m terribly disappointed because I loved using Google Earth for navigation.
How can I download Google Earth on my Audi A3?
The road network from the Standard map show is combined with data packets from satellite images that were downloaded online for this map presentation. For the purpose of temporarily storing the online map and navigation data (corresponding to map and navigation data for around 4000 km of route guidance), the MMI has a memory capacity of 2 GB. As long as these images are retained, you can still use the loaded satellite images for route guiding without an active data connection.
With Google Street View, you can visually wander through a variety of destinations across the globe from the viewpoint of a pedestrian. As soon as the legend displays the symbol -1- Fig. 1, Google Street View becomes accessible.
The rotary pushbutton must be turned to a scale lower than 30 m in order to launch Google Street View.
There are the following alternatives:
- Press the Save control button in order to take a picture of the current Street View image, as seen in Fig. 2. Alternately, hold down the rotary pushbutton while applying pressure to activate the camera.
- Step-by-step exploration of a location: When the number -3- is present, press the rotating pushbutton.
- To enlarge or reduce the size of the visible area (up to 4x): Rotate the rotary pushbutton (4) left or right.
- To move the view up, down, or to the left or right: Your finger should be moved in the desired direction across the MMI touch pad.
During the final two maneuvers of your route guidance, Google Street View displays a picture of your destination, if it is available. The function Additional info needs to be turned onLink for this.
You can turn on the option to display more information in the Map content menu Link. Move the crosshairs over a location on the map, then press the rotary pushbutton to see more information.
- The Google Earth map display’s data can be deleted by utilizing the Factory settings feature Link.
- When Google Earth is accessed through Audi connect, it receives regular updates. This could take a short while.
