These key trackers connect to your phone via Bluetooth; don’t worry, even the most affordable models typically have a range of several dozen meters.

You’ve once again misplaced your automobile keys. You’re certain they’re in your home, but despite looking under the refrigerator and between the cushions of your couch, you were unable to locate them. You have a keyless remote that appears to be able to interact with your automobile, and you are wondering if there is a way to make it speak with you and let you know where it is. Theoretically, it is feasible, according to electrical engineering and computer science doctoral candidate Phillip Nadeau, “but it depends on the kind of remote-entry system we’re talking about. Even then, it can be difficult based on the manufacturer and technologies employed.
Keyless remotes come in two different categories.
Passive Keyless Entry (PKE) and Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) both operate in unique ways. Only when you push a button on the remote do RKE devices send a radio signal to your car. “These gadgets are often only equipped with a transmitter, says Nadeau. Unfortunately, this prevents you from calling the remote. It can’t hear you any more than a skeleton key can.
Your chances are improved if you have a PKE remote. You don’t have to press buttons with PKE devices to lock or unlock your automobile. According to Nadeau, the signal the automobile sends simultaneously powers the remote and requests a legitimate authentication number to open the car. Similar technology is used by RFID card scanners to grant you entrance to a building without requiring you to take your ID card out of your pocket. A PKE remote, in contrast to an RKE gadget, contains both a transmitter and a receiver, enabling it to hear you call it using special radio gear even though you’re simply pretending to be your automobile! Theoretically, you could create a special gadget that doubles as a radio transmitter and receiver, retransmitting the signal from your car and waiting for a response from your keys. However, if you have the technological know-how to build such a device, it should work. This is not a simple or cheap option.
According to Nadeau, as long as you have a lot of free time. “To elicit a response, the interrogator must be a short distance from the remote. Most of the time, this proximity restriction is beneficial. People may steal your automobile out of your driveway while the keys are safely inside your home if PKE remotes have a long range. However, it also means that in order to locate your keys, you will need to search every inch of your home with your tools. You might as well go back and rummage through that junk drawer one more time rather than spending the time and money developing some fancy radio equipment in order to find your keys.

Is a lost car key fob app available?
There are numerous apps with names like “Where’s My Droid,” “Lost Phone,” “Find My Android,” and many others that can assist you locate your lost phone. Some demand that you dial your phone number from a computer. Some people want you to text your phone from a different mobile device. Some will reply with your phone’s location. Some allow you to remotely change the ringer’s state from mute to ring. Others will allow you to remotely turn off the phone and even delete its data. One of my favorite features, “FindMyPhone,” is available for free on Apple’s iPhone4. You can access a website, use your phone’s integrated GPS sensor to track its location, and remotely lock it or erase all of its data. And I’ve used it myself, too. For $2.86, Phone Locator Pro does essentially the same functions for Android phones. Of course, you can always pick up another phone and contact the missing mobile if you lose it at home.

How can I locate a lost key?
All of us have been there. When you realize you don’t have your keys, you put your shoes on, prepare to leave the house, and reach for the door handle. The first locations you look are the ones that should be obvious: your pockets, your bag, and the few areas around the house where you typically keep them. Nada! You can’t find a single sign of your keys anywhere, so they might as well have vanished off the face of the planet.
Memory and how it is kept in our brains have long been researched by scientists. Our memory is affected by a variety of things, including our age, our interest in and familiarity with the subject, and how complex the issue at hand is. Still, it shouldn’t be that difficult to recall where you put your keys, should it?
But this continues to occur more frequently than we realize. People lose nine items daily on average, and it takes them over 15 minutes to find them (keys being one of the most commonly lost items). Just looking for misplaced items can quickly turn into a time-wasting mountain. Interference theory provides some justification for why this might be taking place in psychology. Memories are ephemeral and evolve with time. Our ability to recall events can be hampered if we have two or three nearby, similarly themed memories that interfere with one another. If you don’t have a specific location in the house where you keep your keys, you might keep looking in the areas you think you last saw them without being sure you’re right.
Fortunately, there are steps you can take to either make this occur less frequently or never occur at all. If you use them properly, you won’t ever experience a key loss again.
Choose a dedicated spot
Although it may seem obvious, you’d be amazed at how many individuals don’t have one or don’t use the one they do. This is by far the main reason why people lose their keys and waste a lot of time looking for them. In addition to frustrating you, this can interfere with your personal and professional life if you frequently arrive late for appointments or social gatherings. So, take a moment to choose the finest location in your home for key storage going forward. Make sure the location is convenient so that you will be motivated to use it and that you can quickly get the keys if you need to. This can be done in a little container on your shoe cabinet or in a “key hole on your coat rack.”
Use a keychain to group them
Now that you have a designated location for your keys, be sure to organize them into groups so you won’t have to deal with each one separately. You’ll be less likely to lose your keys if you keep them on a keychain since they’ll make more noise if they mistakenly fall off your object, making them more noticeable and thus simpler to find. A keychain is useful since you can use it to fasten the keys to the inside of your bag as well, giving you peace of mind that they are always securely held while you go about your day.
Make copies
While keeping all of your keys in one location is easy, if you don’t have a backup plan, it may also lead to disaster. Always make a backup set of keys, just in case you misplace the originals. The best place to keep your spare copies is a secret compartment in your car, which will prevent you from being locked out of your home (just make sure the copies don’t have your street name or house number on them in case someone else finds them). If you travel frequently, you might want to keep a second copy in your suitcase, or you might use a vacant shelf in your wardrobe where you know you can always locate them.
Use memory techniques
You can use a variety of mental techniques to sharpen your memory, but one that is particularly well-known is the memory palace. Using this strategy, you try to correlate the things you wish to recall with various components of an imagined physical area, such as your home. You can use this method to remember where you left your keys in addition to helping you remember lists of items or patterns. Therefore, take a moment to picture your house. The activity will be more effective and powerful if you can add more details to it.
Consider where you would like to keep your keys, such the hallway shoe cabinet. Imagine a set of keys that is the size of a person “entering the house and sitting on the shoe cabinet. The vision will be more unforgettable if it is more bizarre. Do this several times. This should help you remember to always keep your keys in the proper location and, perhaps, make it simpler for you to locate them afterwards.
Backtrack your steps
You know how sometimes when you enter the kitchen, you don’t remember why you are there? As you retrace your steps to the dining room, where you got the inspiration to enter the kitchen, do you discover that you are missing a fork? That is how effective mental cues are. You can attempt going back through the steps you took up until the last time you recall having your keys if you’ve misplaced them. Consider the sequence of events that occurred. Perhaps as you entered through the door, you quickly turned off the hob in the kitchen after realizing you had left it on. Your colleague then instructed you to open your laptop and transmit them the most recent presentation you were working on as soon as your phone rang. Then, before getting ready for supper, you hurriedly jumped into the shower. All of these behaviors may provide a hint as to where your keys may be. As you try to recollect, go through each area carefully since something in the surroundings can provide a hint as to where you might have put your keys.
