The weight varies within the A3 model lineup. The weight of the 1-liter manual is only 1180 kg, but when you upgrade to a 2.0-liter TDI quattro, the weight increases by 240 kg. For instance, the S-Tronic dual-clutch transmission weighs 20 kg more than the manual alternatives, but choosing quattro 4WD adds an additional 100 kg to the weight of the A3 Sportback. Due to the additional hardware needed and the installation of a bigger 55-liter gasoline tank, choosing quattro also results in a loss of 40 liters of boot space (front-wheel drive Sportbacks have 50-litre tanks).
The 2-liter TFSI gasoline engine in the S3 Sportback has a six-speed manual or S Tronic automatic transmission as an option. Only the lightning-fast 362bhp RS3 Sportback has more outright performance than it at 306bhp.
