When will Audi switch to electric vehicles?
Audi officially announced in March of this year that it was ceasing all development of internal combustion engines in favor of a wholly electric vehicle-focused strategy. The company’s board chairman Markus Duesmann later announced to German media that starting in 2026, all new Audis would be electric. The schedule for the phase-out of internal combustion engines was also reaffirmed today with the announcement that “new Audi models will be all-electric starting in 2026, and combustion engine manufacture will finish in 2033.”
The proposal was unveiled as part of Audi’s new Vorsprung 2030 credo, which outlines the company’s plans to produce automobiles in a more sustainable manner. The focus shifts from the phase-out of combustion to seeking out those incredibly hot automotive buzzwords, or “synergies,” that will aid the brand in shifting its primary source of revenues from combustion car sales to electric.
Audi’s chief strategist Silja Pieh, together with roughly 500 other personnel from innovation and major markets, including China and the United States, worked on Vorsprung 2030.
The good news is that there will soon be more E-trons. However, Vorsprung 2030 also includes efforts to distinguish Audi’s EVs from those of rivals and other VW brands. Audi produces compact electric vehicles?

The innovative MEB electric architecture, which here offers two battery sizes of 52kWh and 77kWh with 100kW and 125kW charging capacities respectively, is used for the first time by Audi in the battery-powered Q4. At a fast charger, the larger battery can absorb electricity equivalent to 80 miles of range in 10 minutes.
Regular and Sportback body designs are similar to the 2019 ideas and continue to stand out for their muscular styling, which includes deeply sculpted sills, large wheels, and protruding arches. A lengthy wheelbase and short overhangs inside of an overall body length of little under 4.6m determine the proportions. So little like a giant.

In models with two motors, the rear motor performs the majority of the work, with the front motor only turning on when necessary. The amount of energy recovery varies, but at its highest, the rear motor may provide 145kW of electricity while decelerating the vehicle by 0.3g, maximizing the range of an electric vehicle.
With a narrow 10.2m turning circle and nearly 50:50 weight distribution, the battery-powered Q4 should handle like a classic Audi while maintaining a low center of gravity. The ESC has a sport mode, and adjustable dampers are an option as part of what Audi refers to as its electronic dynamic handling system.
Matrix LED lights, a full-width rear light bar (featuring the brand’s four rings in a very cool touch), 19-, 20-, or 21-inch alloy wheels in a variety of finishes, a black styling package, and of course a typical fully equipped and beautifully finished cabin are among the expected Audi goodies making an appearance here (depending on the model).

As Audi’s all-electric lineup takes shape, another new one is scheduled to be presented at the Shanghai show the following week. The small Q4 is expected to be the most popular model ever. We particularly like it in Sportback form, but prices haven’t been released yet, so you’ll have to wait until September to get one.
Audi Q5 is it electric?
The market for electric cars, trucks, and SUVs has suddenly blossomed with fashionable, desired models. Cars that plug in to charge are currently very popular. Even plug-in hybrids, like this 2021 Audi Q5 55 TFSI e, are becoming part of the trend. The Q5 55 plug-in hybrid, which will go on sale for the 2020 model year, crams an 11.3 kWh battery pack and a 141-hp electric motor into the conventional Q5’s drivetrain for a total of 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque.
The SUV’s load capacity was unaffected in the process, but its estimated all-electric range of 19 miles is lower than that of comparable plug-in hybrids. For instance, both the Lexus NX450h+ and the Lincoln Corsair PHEV can go further on battery power alone. On top of that, the Audi’s electric range was 17 miles at 75 mph on a full charge. We were unhappy to learn that, unlike the Volvo XC60 T8, the Audi’s battery cannot be recharged using the gasoline engine. Re-juicing is thus only possible if you have access to a charger.
