We like what we see when Audi unveiled the 2016 Q7 today, providing a first look at its seven-seat competitor against the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz ML/GLE.

Audi was able to pull off this astounding accomplishment by using more high-strength steel in the car’s frame and a lot of aluminum in its outer panels. Additionally, according to Audi, the Q7’s electric-only range will be 35 miles on a full battery charge, making it the ideal Q7 for both eco-warriors and torque junkies. Volvo claims that the XC90 T8 plug-in hybrid will be able to go 25 miles on just the batteries for the purposes of comparison.
Audi will provide a 2.0L TFSI turbocharged gasoline I-4 for some areas, including the US, to round out the available powertrain options. This engine’s 252 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque should be sufficient for this newly lighter SUV. Although we doubt the motor will have much vigor, it should be sufficient for the majority of drivers.
Amazing fuel economy is the key to all of that weight loss and engine tuning. According to Audi, the 3.0 TDI and 3.0 TFSI will both get 31 and 41 miles per gallon, respectively, while the Q7 e-tron plug-in could achieve up to 138 miles per gallon on a full charge. Amazing.
The shell that comes with the new engineering is quite lovely. The six-point single-frame grille from Audi, which dominates the front end of the new Q7, is in its most recent iteration.
